Custom & private instances
Want a version of this that's yours?
What you see on this site is one public instance of NOM. The product underneath is yours to run however you like — a hosted account on nom.nommeal.com, or your own instance where the recipe wall, the restrictions, and the week's plan never touch the public internet.
Meal planning, hosted and open
Meal planning for households where one person's diet isn't everyone's diet.
NOM puts the week's food in front of the people eating it — a shared plan on the fridge-door tablet, a shopping list in a back pocket at the store. It plans, shuffles, tracks the pantry, and does the unit math. Free to use at nom.nommeal.com while it's in beta.
We build the product.
NOM is one stack for the whole food loop: meal-plan calendar, recipe library and import, dietary restrictions, pantry, and shopping lists — free and open source under Apache 2.0, hosted on our gear or yours.
Built from a real kitchen.
Built at my house, where three people eat three different ways and one of them does the shopping.
Private by default.
A public recipe wall is a per-instance choice, not a given. Run NOM for your family — or your client roster — and nothing goes on the internet: no recipes, no restrictions, no plans. Your diet setups aren't anyone else's business.
Yours to run, or let us host it.
nom.nommeal.com is the hosted instance — we
run the servers, the backups, and the upgrades, free during the beta. The same
Apache-2.0 code is yours to self-host: docker compose up gets you the UI,
API, and database. NOM sells hosting, not licenses.
Yes, there's AI. No, you don't have to use it.
The AI-assisted bits — recipe extraction from images, retail-package lookups — are off by default, opt-in per feature, and can run entirely on local models. Turn them on if they earn their keep. Ignore them and the planner is still a planner.
Where we focus
Software that lives where the food happens.
Most nutrition tools assume one person logging meals at a desk. NOM designs around the opposite: a household planning together, and somebody standing in aisle six wondering how many cans three recipes add up to.
Plan the week. Or let the shuffle do it.
A calendar of the household's breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Tap a slot to pick a recipe — already filtered by everyone's restrictions — or hit shuffle and let NOM fill the gaps by the plan's rules.
- Per-person allergies, diets, and dislikes
- Plan rules: "fish once", "meatless Monday"
- Shuffle never clobbers meals you've shopped for
- Recipe import from a URL, ratings, cookbooks
One list, in aisle order, on your phone.
The coming days become one consolidated list: quantities merged across recipes, recipe units converted to what stores actually sell, grouped by department in walking order. What's already in the pantry gets subtracted first.
- "1½ cups flour" becomes "one 5 lb bag"
- Produce first, frozen last
- Check off a trip → items land in the pantry
- Any phone browser. No install, no app store
Dinner, decided.
Create a household, set your restrictions, and shuffle your first week in about five minutes.
